 Old Time Music & Country Dance

Date: Saturday, March 9, 2024

Location: Round Hill Community Hall (1689 Highway 201, Round Hill)

Details: Get your dancing shoes on and two-step your way down to the Round Hill Community Hall for an old-time dance in support of SOOF! Featuring live music by the North Mountain Islanders. Instruction for 2 steps, waltzes, maybe a contra or two, polkas by request.

The municipality is inviting residents to attend an in-person public information meeting to learn more and provide feedback on the preliminary design of the erosion mitigation measures for Shore Road.

Residents are invited to join municipal staff for a presentation on the project and an opportunity to ask questions. Feedback from the meeting will be compiled into a What We Heard Report and will be used to help inform the project design. There will be a follow-up meeting in fall 2024 to present the final design and to discuss design considerations as a result of the first public information meeting.

Join us for a workshop (either online or in-person) exploring how your community can engage in the environmental assessment (EA) process, hold productive meetings with politicians, lead effective grassroots campaigns and more! You’ll learn all about how the EA process works, how you can provide input and help influence projects to be more sustainable and beneficial for your community.

Cook Aquaculture is applying for a 390 percent increase in production in Liverpool Bay. The Aquaculture Review Board (ARB) will be hearing this application in March and April 2024.
 This expansion is a key element in Cooke Aquaculture plans to establish many more of these operations in our Nova Scotia coastal waters.
Please make time to send your opinion on this expansion to the ARB. Follow this link for instructions to help with your submission.
The Protect Liverpool Bay Facebook group has also organised workshops to help you write letters to the ARB.

About: Come join us for lunch and a chat about old forests and citizen science.

There is a special meeting of Cumberland County Council in the Council Chambers in Upper Nappan for the second reading of the Development Agreement between Higgins Mountain Partnership Limited and the Municipality of Cumberland County.

The meeting is scheduled at 4 pm on January 31 ( Wednesday). The public is welcome to attend this meeting but we have been advised there will be no public presentations.

Public Meeting

About: SOOF is hosting a Public Meeting to talk about potential sites in Annapolis County that have been identified for clearcutting and spraying and our ongoing work to protect two wilderness areas on the South Mountain.

Please note that this is not a SOOF Soup Sunday event and there will not be a free lunch served at the Public Meeting.

SOOF Soup Sunday

It’s a free event – but we do ask that you register in advance so we know how much soup to make!

Save Our Old Forests Minamkeak Trail Walk

 Learn to identify lichens with lichenologist Frances Anderson.
Learn about edible mushrooms with fungus enthusiast Valerie Hearder.
Enjoy a hike suitable for all ages and hear about why our old Acadien forests need protection. SOOF is seeking Wilderness area designation for public lands in the Petite Riviere Watershed some in the Minamkeak Lake area.
How to get there:
From Bridgewater take Hwy 103 towards Liverpool and turn right onto Camperdown Rd at flashing light just before Bob and the Boys Market. Drive 9.1 km. Minamkeak Lake will be visible on right and trail is 700 meters further look for signage to trailhead and parking.
